GUWAHATI: Congress in Assam has urged EC that the candidates of the assembly election, his or her election agent and party representatives on duty at various strong rooms be exempted from the purview of the night curfew clamped by the state government from Tuesday till May 1.
APCC president Ripun Bora in a memorandum to the state chief electoral officer has stated that as per the provisions of the manual of the Election Commission, representatives of the political parties are allowed to watch or guard the strong room round the clock.
“Similarly, as per guideline of the Election Commission of India, the contesting Candidates and his or her election agent are also allowed to visit the strong room to inspect about its safety. In view of this, if exemption is not allowed from night curfew to the contesting candidates, their election agents or the candidates representatives during this curfew period they would not be able to visit or guard the strong room which will frustrate the ve
